Corpus Christi

The feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ), is a liturgical solemnity celebration of tradition and belief that the body and blood of Jesus Christ is the real presence in the taking of the Eucharist during Catholic Mass. The process emphasizes the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, which was observed on Holy Thursday in the nearness of Good Friday.

The Feast is not considered a Holy Day of Obligation. The feast is usually celebrated with procession of the Blessed Sacrament being displayed in the monstrance.

During the "Last Supper, Jesus blessed and broke bread and gave it to his disciples saying "Take and eat; this is my body which will be given up for you." And taking a cup, he gave thanks and gave it to his disciples and said, "All of you drink of this; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is being shed for many unto the forgiveness of sins."

This tradition continues daily during Catholic Mass. The faithful of the Church believe that during the process of the Mass, the bread and wine transforms into the blood and body of Christ.
