Medjugorje Miracles

By Michael K. Jones

Miracles: 1) an act or happening attributed to supernatural power, 2) a wonderful thing.

It is noteworthy that the first syllable in the word Mir-a-cles is mir. In the village of Medjugorje the word mir means peace. If this world could obtain peace it would certainly be a miracle.

Imagine the word Mir written across the sky above one of the known apparition sites in Medjugorje. It was witnessed by thousands of people at the same time.

Often, during the nightly apparitions, there would be gatherings of people outside and around the church of Medjugorje. One evening, during such a gathering, a man looked at the cross that is on the mountain top (Mt. Kreizevac) in Medjugorje. He noticed that the cross was gone and in its place was the apparition of the Queen of Peace. He told the gathering to look at the mountain top and thousands witnessed the vision with their own eyes.

Imagine while in the village of Medjugorje, being surrounded in the smell of roses. Thousands of people have reported this phenomenon as well. The reports of the smell of roses happens both singularly and in mass episodes.

Imagine looking into the sun without injury to your eyes. Imagine watching the sun spin, pulsate, change color, or jump around in the sky. Imagine seeing the face of Jesus in the sun. Thousands have witnessed this as well.

Many Catholics say the chain links on their rosary beads change from silver to a gold looking color. This happened to thousand of pilgrims both those who were on their way to Medjugorje, as well as those already in Medjugorje.

The visionaries say that all these things are signs being sent by God, so that we will believe better. The documentation and testimonies of these events have lead the poor, the rich, the famous, the unknown, the sick and the healthy on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje.

Protestant, Episcopal, Baptist, Jew, Catholic, believers, and non-believers alike, the miracles and wonders have extended beyond any singular profession of faith. Medjugorje is for everyone.

During a vision, the Lady told the seers that there was a woman who lived in Medjugorje who was very near sainthood. The seers asked her name. They were shocked at the response. The woman near sainthood was a Moslem. Being Catholic, the seers asked how a Moslem could be near sainthood. The Lady replied, "These are things for God to decide."

It has now been 18 years since the first apparition in Medjugorje since this article was rewritten in 1999. Currently three of the six visionaries still see the Queen of Peace almost daily. The pilgrims still flood the street of Medjugorje.

Statesmen, ambassadors, chiefs, princes, and quite possibly a near bye neighbor have traveled to this little remote mountain village which seems to be a piece of heaven on earth.

The lost, the hopeful, the depressed, the grateful, the seekers, the believers, the non believers, the healthy and the sick make the long journey. Many are looking for a miracle. Some do not find the miracle they are looking for while others do.

Below is the testimony, as written in a book by author and theologian René Laurentin. The book is called, Ten Years of Apparitions.

My name is Nicolo Pacini; I live in Ponte a Cappiano, hamlet of Rucecchio, province of Florence. I was born on November 13, 1977. I have just turned 13.

I suffered from grave muscular dystrophy which should quickly lead me to death. It is a very rare illness. One of my hands always remained closed, and I could not walk.

It began four years ago with a twisted foot then, in May of that same year, 1986, I got to the point of not being able to walk anymore. After that, it affected my other foot, then my hand. The other hand was also clenched.

The other week [November 28], a lady came to my house and spoke to me about Medjugorje. She had not shown me a picture of the statue of the Blessed Virgin (before which we are standing), and yet I saw it in a dream, and white, only slightly different. I also saw the statue in the church of Fr. Jozo. She seemed to be saying: Come, come! She said nothing else. I awakened and decide to come to Medjugorje.

Friday evening, December 7, we arrived here at the church. It was very beautiful; there was no light and there was a great spiritual recollection which one cannot find except in darkness.

I listened with great attention to the prayer in progress. In fact, it was the Mass, and then it happened: my right hand, which had been closed since May, opened itself very slowly. I came out of the church with the hand completely free, and I moved it perfectly. I was in my wheelchair, but my hand was cured.

The next day, Saturday, December 8, 1990, about 9 a.m. in the morning, we returned here to the church, and I told my friend who had spoken to me about Medjugorje of the dream which I had had of this statue. We went to see it in the garden, and I took two souvenir pictures. At that moment I felt the desire to get up. I got up and everything was normal. I walked and now I am truly well.

Please note that the miracles and the healing of Nicolo which are mentioned here are well documented. There are countless cases of unexplained phenomena in Medjugorje.

The greatest miracle of all in my life is the fact that I did not believe in God. Then one day after a personal miracle I did believe. My visit to Medjugorje took me beyond believing. Today I no longer merely believe in God, I know God exists. No matter what may happen with the rest of my life, I will never doubt in the existence of God.
