Pope John Paul stated that, “If I were not pope I would have been in Medjugorje long ago.” Cardinal Ratzinger (current pope Benedict) is a traditionalist as was John Paul. Ratzinger was John Paul’s right hand man and the head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. All indications show John Paul and Benedict were of like mind, when it comes to Medjugorje.
For the first time in the history of the church, three commissions failed to yield an unbiased finding over Medjugorje. This indicates an ongoing struggle and conflict in the church over the Medjugorje apparitions. The struggle appears in U.S. State Department document declassified for me. In these documents the Bishop of Mostar (Zanic) tells us of a growing number of priests who are tied of apparitions, while many others priests do not believe in apparitions at all. This is very likely the reason Medjugorje remains in an unstable balance and continued division within the church. A final decision about Medjugorje may well not be so much about if it is supernatural as it is about priests who are tied of apparitions, or just plain do not believe in them, wanting them to go away.
The forth Medjugorje commission was formed in March 2010. In January 2013, the head of the 4th commission Cardinal Ruini announced the commission was winding down and would soon present their findings to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. If Medjugorje Commission ended on a positive note, this would be well received by pope Benedict. However, if Benedict is no longer pope, the views of a newly elected Pontiff could be quite different. It is therefore quite possible that pope Benedict stepping down could result in a greater division over those who believe in apparitions and the growing numbers of those who don’t believe.
Maybe a newly elected pope will supports modern ways and ideas over the traditional ways handed down by our forefathers. For years we have seen modern idealism take hold of the church. Opposed to modern concepts some priests have formed “The Marian Movement of Priests." This organization is designed to stand against priests who seek modernism in the church. Lighting strikes hitting Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican (Feb. 12, 2013) just hours after Pope Benedict announced he is stepping down, could be warning signs of God’s indignation for godless acts about to be committed. Maybe the lighting strikes are the beginning of sorrows yet to come which will be like birth pangs as we find in Matthew 24. It may as well be possible that coming events could be of biblical proportions, the likes never seen before, as is found in Revelation 12.
I recall Randall Sullivan's book "The Miracle Detective." While in Rome, Sullivan discussed Medjugorje with some religious in high authorities. I believe it was a cardinal, (as I recall) that told Sullivan that they will soon have control over the church, meaning modernist would have control. From all I have studied, information suggests there would be a loved and long reining pope, (John Paul) and another pope would have a short stay (Benedict) and there after would come evils. All this having been said, I have deep concerns what a new elective Pontiff will bring to the table. Please remember, prayer is always good for such matters but we also know scripture tells us, "All things must come to pass so Scripture is forfilled."
UPDATE: Oddly enough just 18 days after writing this article Our Lady give a message to Mirjana for the forth time in the past three years about warning signs.
This is the March 2, message. “Dear children; Anew, in a motherly way, I am calling you not to be of a hard heart. Do not shut your eyes to the "warnings" which the Heavenly Father sends to you out of love. Do you love Him above all else? Do you repent for having often forgotten that the Heavenly Father, out of His great love, sent His Son to redeem us by the Cross? Do you repent for not having accepted the message? My children, do not resist the love of my Son. Do not resist hope and peace. Along with your prayers and fasting, by His Cross, my Son will cast away the darkness that wants to surround you and come to rule over you. He will give you the strength for a new life. Living it according to my Son, you will be a blessing and a hope to all those sinners who wander in the darkness of sin. My children, keep vigil. I, as a mother, am keeping vigil with you. I am especially praying and watching over those whom my Son called to be light-bearers and carriers of hope for you – for your shepherds. Thank you.”
